ICSU is developing a first class golf program for all its students. We have a partnership with SNAG Golf Korea (http://www.ksga.co.kr/) to introduce all our students K-12 to golf. One day a week during our physical education classes our students use the SNAG golf program to develop skills in golf. Our golf coach, David Kwon, who is a Korean golf professional, teaches this program.
ICSU students who are interested in developing their skills further have an opportunity to join the ICSU golf team. To join the golf team students must be 10 years or older. The ICSU golf team is divided into two groups. Group A is for students that are ready to compete in golf tournaments. This team is able to go to Korean and American golf tournaments. The main tournaments are in Korea but ICSU students have to opportunity to travel to the USA during the summer break and to Guam over our spring break to participate in other tournaments.
ICSU has an agreement with a local golf course, Lakewood Golf Club, to use 9 holes for our practice course at a reduced price. We are also consulting to use a golf practice range that is near ICSU.
Group B is for students who are not yet ready to compete in tournaments but are learning the game and getting ready for golf competitions. Our coach has run “David’s Golf Academy” for many years teaching golf to kids. He has earned the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certificates for levels 1-3 for teaching junior golf.
Another planned aspect of our golf program is winter training overseas. We are planning trips during the winter to not only play golf but to work with Food for the Hungry International to help minister to those in need.
